CWS Kitchen Remodeling: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
If you have a CWS kitchen and something in it has failed, you’re likely wondering whether the part can be matched, what it costs, and how fast someone in Jacksonville can get to it. The short answer: we install and retrofit CWS-compatible kitchen components in Jacksonville, and a full CWS-style kitchen remodel here typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 depending on cabinetry, countertop material, and how much of the existing layout stays put. Most owners discover the failure the same way: a drawer front that no longer closes flush, a hinge that has chewed through its mounting point, or a countertop seam that has opened up enough to catch crumbs every single time.
We’re an independent Jacksonville remodeling contractor, not a CWS dealer or affiliate. That matters because we have no reason to steer you toward one brand’s replacement line. We match what failed, price it in writing before the work starts, and stand behind the result. If a CWS cabinet box is still sound and only the hardware or drawer assembly gave out, you shouldn’t have to buy a whole new kitchen to fix it.
Graham Stein has walked through enough Jacksonville kitchens, including plenty of older Craftsman bungalows in Avondale, to know that a failed hinge or a swollen drawer box rarely means the whole cabinet needs to go. It means someone has to look at the mounting points, the rail style, and the original hole pattern before ordering anything. That’s the walk-through we do before quoting, and it’s why our written price has no allowance line items that quietly grow.
Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS kitchen cabinetry and components appear across a range of Jacksonville homes, from 1990s production builds to later semi-custom kitchens. The compatibility question always comes down to the hardware generation and the cabinet construction, not a model name stamped on a door. Here’s what we check on site.
First, the hinge. CWS cabinetry from different eras used different hinge cup sizes and mounting patterns. The most common we see are 35mm cup hinges, but some earlier lines use 26mm cups, and the screw hole spacing changes between them. We measure the cup diameter, the door overlay, and the distance between the hinge arm mounting screws before we order anything. If the hinge you pull off the cabinet has no brand stamp, we match by those dimensions rather than by guesswork.
Second, the drawer box. CWS drawer boxes were built in several configurations: stapled wood, dovetail, and in some lines a melamine-wrapped particleboard with a glued front. If the drawer front has pulled free from the box, the repair path depends on which construction you have. Melamine boxes that have absorbed moisture from Jacksonville’s humidity often can’t be re-glued cleanly; the particleboard crumbles at the screw holes. In that case we order a replacement drawer box with the same exterior measurements and remount the original front if it’s still intact.
For an OEM part versus a quality aftermarket equivalent: we use both, and we’ll tell you which makes sense for the specific failure. For hinges and slides, aftermarket options from Blum, Salice, and Grass often outlast the original hardware and come with their own manufacturer warranties. For a CWS cabinet door or a matched drawer front, the finish match matters more than the brand, so we send a sample or take the existing door to our supplier for a finish match before ordering. That’s the kind of patience that saves you from a door that’s visibly the wrong white under kitchen lighting.

Signs Your CWS Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors that won’t stay closed or won’t close flush. The hinge spring has fatigued or the mounting screws have stripped out of the particleboard. In Jacksonville’s humidity, the underlying cause is often that the cabinet box has swelled slightly, changing the reveal and putting constant pressure on the hinge. A new hinge won’t fix a swollen box.
- Drawer fronts pulling away from the drawer box. The original glue and fasteners have failed, or the drawer bottom has sagged and is now carrying weight it wasn’t designed to hold. If you can wiggle the drawer front independently of the box, stop using that drawer; the front can separate completely and fall onto someone’s foot.
- Countertop seams that have opened or discolored. This shows up as a dark line at the seam that won’t clean away, or a seam that catches a fingernail when you drag it across. Water has found its way into the seam, and in Jacksonville’s climate that moisture isn’t going to leave on its own. Left alone, it migrates under the countertop and can lift the laminate or swell the substrate.
- Soft-close hardware that now slams. The damper inside the hinge or slide has leaked its fluid or seized. This is rarely worth repairing individually. Once one damper fails, the others from the same run are not far behind, and the quiet failure is the first sign of that.
- Cabinet boxes pulling away from the wall. The upper cabinet mounting screws have lost their bite in the wall framing, or the cabinet backs are deteriorating. This is the one sign that should stop you from storing heavy items in the upper cabinets until a pro has looked at it. A loaded cabinet that drops is a serious injury risk.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Jacksonville, the cost of CWS-related kitchen work breaks into clear bands depending on how much of the kitchen is being addressed. A targeted repair, like replacing failed hinges and remounting two drawer fronts, is usually a few hundred dollars. Refacing or replacing a run of cabinet doors runs between $4,000 and $13,000 depending on door count and finish. Building new countertops, whether that’s Cambria, Silestone, Caesarstone, or another surface you can research by name, runs $2,000 to $6,500 installed. A full kitchen remodel that keeps the existing footprint, replaces or rebuilds the cabinets, installs new countertops and a backsplash, and updates the fixtures lands in the $14,000 to $45,000 range.
The written price we give before any work starts includes the parts, the labor, the haul-away, and the clean-up. Shoe covers and drop cloths are on the job every day, not a line item. You’ll get a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. If the part being replaced is tied to a manufacturer’s warranty, we keep that documentation; if the failure is in something we installed, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things you can safely check before you pick up the phone. For a door that won’t close flush, check whether a single hinge screw has backed out and can be re-seated by hand. For a drawer front that’s slightly loose, look at whether the screws behind the drawer front are just loose, not stripped. Those are hand-tool jobs and genuinely low risk. What we don’t recommend is any repair where the cabinet box itself has swollen, the hinge has torn out of the particleboard, or a drawer box has started to crumble. At that point you’re not fixing a part; you’re fighting the material, and the repair will fail again in months. Countertop seam work is also not a DIY job; opening and re-bonding a seam wrong can pull the laminate or crack the surface. If you’re in Jacksonville and want someone to look at it before you spend another weekend on it, call us at (904) 643-6243. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a fix or a replace, and you’ll have the number in writing either way.
FAQs

In Jacksonville’s humidity, CWS cabinet boxes and hinges typically last 10 to 20 years, with door hinges and soft-close hardware being the first components to fail. Cabinet boxes can last longer if the kitchen is well-ventilated and spills are handled quickly, but drawer hardware that gets daily use will wear out long before the cabinet box does.
Sometimes. If the hinge has just backed out of solid wood or the drawer front screws are loose but the material is intact, a careful re-seat is a legitimate repair. If the hinge has torn out of particleboard or the drawer box has crumbled, repair won’t hold and replacement is the honest path. Call (904) 643-6243 and we’ll tell you which one you’re looking at.
A hinge or drawer front replacement on a few cabinets is usually done in half a day. A full cabinet door replacement or countertop installation takes longer because the parts and material need to be ordered and finished. We’ll give you a timeline before we start, and the price is fixed in writing regardless of how many trips it takes.
We stock common 35mm and 26mm cup hinges, soft-close slides, and mounting hardware on the truck for quick repairs. For model-specific door fronts, drawer boxes, or matched finishes, we order them to spec from our supplier network once we’ve measured your existing cabinetry. You’ll know what’s in stock and what’s ordered before any work begins.
If you’re ready for an honest look at your CWS kitchen, call (904) 643-6243 to schedule a free estimate. Name the material, name the day, name the price, then there is nothing left to wonder about.
