ActiveYards Fence Installation: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
ActiveYards fence installation in Jacksonville typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full residential install, with most of that range driven by linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re working with aluminum or vinyl. We match ActiveYards components by panel width, post dimension, and style series on the truck, so most Jacksonville homeowners get a written price the same day we walk the yard. The way most people find us: a gate drags, a post leans after a storm, or a section of ActiveYards racking came loose at the bottom rail and the rails started working their way out of the post.
We’re an independent Jacksonville contractor, not affiliated with ActiveYards, but we install and repair their fence lines regularly, including matching existing panels when only part of a run failed.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards produces three main residential fence collections we see across Jacksonville: the aluminum series (with ornamental pickets and finials), the vinyl privacy series (full panel, no gaps), and the vinyl picket series (semi-privacy, often paired with gates). The compatibility gotcha worth knowing: ActiveYards panels are not always interchangeable between series, even when the nominal height matches. A 6-foot vinyl privacy panel uses a different post wall thickness than an aluminum ornamental panel, and the bottom rail channel dimensions differ enough that a privacy panel won’t drop into an aluminum post.
How to identify what you have: look at the bottom rail. ActiveYards stamps the series name on most rails, usually on the inside face about six inches from the end. If the stamp is worn or painted over, measure the post. ActiveYards residential posts are commonly 2″ x 2″ or 2.5″ x 2.5″ for aluminum, and 4″ x 4″ or 5″ x 5″ for vinyl privacy lines. The second number matters more than the first because the post’s interior channel size is what the panel locks into. When we match a section on a Jacksonville property, we photograph the rail stamp and measure the post wall with calipers before ordering anything.
On OEM versus aftermarket: ActiveYards’ own replacement panels will match color and profile exactly, but lead times can stretch to two or three weeks from a distributor. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for common vinyl privacy panels and aluminum pickets, and they’re often half the cost. The trade-off is color match. Vinyl yellows slightly over time in Florida sun, so a brand-new ActiveYards panel against seven-year-old panels will show. We tell every customer that before they decide.

Signs Your ActiveYards Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags or won’t latch cleanly. This usually means the hinge post has shifted in the ground, not that the gate itself bent. Jacksonville’s sandy topsoil and heavy summer rains settle posts over time, and an ActiveYards gate hung on a post that’s drifted 3/8 inch will never close right until the post is re-set.
- Bottom rail pulled free from the post. On vinyl lines, the bottom rail is the structural weak point. It carries the weight of the pickets, and when it sags or cracks at the post, the whole panel starts leaning forward. We see this most after wind events when debris pushes against the fence line.
- Post lean without an obvious impact. If a post is tilted but nothing hit it, check the concrete collar. Many Jacksonville fence installs use a shallow 24-inch post set without enough concrete, and our storm season finds those within a year or two. ActiveYards vinyl posts hold up fine; it’s usually the footing that failed.
- Pickets popping out of the top rail. This is specific to vinyl picket and aluminum ornamental lines. The top rail expands and contracts with heat, and over several Florida summers the snap-in channels can widen. Once one picket lets go, the neighbors usually follow.
- Corrosion at the bottom of aluminum posts. Jacksonville’s salt air, especially east of the Intracoastal, eats at aluminum post bases where standing water sits after rain. ActiveYards aluminum is powder-coated, but the cut ends at the concrete line are the vulnerable spot, and that’s a post replacement job, not a touch-up.

For a partial repair, like swapping out one bent section of ActiveYards aluminum or re-setting a leaning vinyl post, Jacksonville homeowners usually pay between $200 and $900 depending on whether we’re digging new footings or just replacing rails and pickets. Full fence installation runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a typical residential property, and the range is driven by linear feet, gate hardware, removal of an old fence, and whether the ground needs auger work through roots or compacted soil.
Every price we give is written before work starts. It lists the ActiveYards or matched panel by series name, the post dimensions, the gate hardware by part number, and the labor broken down by stage. No allowance line items. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed work: if a post shifts, a gate drags, or a panel pulls loose within a year of install, we come back and make it right. We also pull any needed permits for Jacksonville residential fence work and pass the inspection before we call the job done.
Graham Stein writes every scope of work the same way: name the material, name the day, name the price – then there is nothing left to wonder about.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things worth checking before you pick up the phone. If a gate is dragging, look at the hinge screws; if they’re loose, tightening them is a five-minute job with a hex key. If a picket popped out of the channel, sometimes it snaps back in on a warm day when the vinyl is flexible. But if the post itself is leaning, if the bottom rail is cracked at the post, or if a section is racking, you’re into digging and re-setting footings, and that’s where it becomes a two-person job with real risk of getting the alignment wrong. A fence set half an inch off at the post line will telegraph through the whole run.
ActiveYards panels are not heavy enough to be dangerous like a spring under tension, but cutting and re-setting posts means working with a post-hole digger or auger near utility lines. Jacksonville code requires calling 811 before digging, and we do that on every project where we’re below ground. If you’d rather not fight a root system or find the exact post match, call (904) 643-6243 and we’ll give you a written quote for the fix.
FAQs

An ActiveYards aluminum fence, properly set with adequate concrete footings, can last 20 to 25 years in Jacksonville before corrosion at the post bases becomes visible. Vinyl privacy typically lasts 15 to 20 years with routine cleaning, though Florida UV exposure will fade and slightly yellow the panels faster than in northern climates. The posts usually outlast the panels; the failure point on vinyl is almost always the bottom rail. Call (904) 643-6243 if you’re seeing early wear on a specific section, because matching the color now is easier than matching it five years from now.
Yes, one section at a time is how we do most ActiveYards work in Jacksonville. The fine print is color: a new vinyl panel will be brighter than aged neighboring panels, and an aluminum section powder-coated this year will not exactly match one coated ten years ago. We can tell you honestly whether the difference will be noticeable from the street before we order anything. Call (904) 643-6243 for a section-by-section assessment.
A typical full install on a standard Jacksonville lot takes two to three working days, which includes removing an old fence if one is in place, setting posts in concrete, hanging panels, and installing gates. Partial repairs are often completed the same morning. The post holes are dug and set on day one, the panels go up on day two, and the gates are hung and adjusted on the final visit. Call (904) 643-6243 and we’ll give you an honest day count with the written quote.
We stock common ActiveYards-compatible vinyl rails, pickets, and aluminum post caps on the truck for quick repairs, but full panels and gates in specific series are ordered from Jacksonville distributors because the color and profile have to match exactly. If you have the rail stamp or panel dimensions, we can tell you over the phone whether it’s a stock item or a special order. Call (904) 643-6243 with that number and we’ll confirm before we schedule anything.
Graham grew up in Los Angeles and spent close to two decades on residential projects across Southern California before bringing that experience to Jacksonville, including detailed interior work in Avondale’s older Craftsman homes. We carry the same standard for every fence line we install: drop cloths and shoe covers when we’re walking through the house to the yard, a written price before work starts, a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves, and quiet tools during family rest hours. We also work with brands homeowners can research by name including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on our interior remodeling projects, because a named product is a checkable one.
