Kohler Windows & Doors: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
If you have a Kohler window or door that’s sticking, leaking, or failing at the frame, we can source the correct Kohler-compatible part and install it properly. Typical installed pricing for Kohler-compatible window replacement in Jacksonville runs $4,500 – $15,000 for a full project, while individual hardware, weatherstripping, and frame repairs usually fall between $300 and $1,800 depending on the part and labor. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a window that suddenly won’t latch before hurricane season, or a door that drags against the jamb after a humid August. The part didn’t fail overnight. It’s usually been wearing for two or three summers, and the salt air along the St. Johns finally finished the job.
We’re an independent Jacksonville remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with Kohler directly, but we work with their window and door lines regularly because the hardware is well-designed and the parts are traceable by model and serial number. Graham Stein and our crew have replaced Kohler window balances, door sweeps, hinges, and full frame units in homes across Riverside, Avondale, San Marco, and the beaches, and we stock the most common failure parts on the truck so a first visit is usually the only visit.
Which Kohler Models This Applies To

Kohler’s window and door lines span several series, and the part compatibility is stricter than most homeowners expect. The Kohler ProFlex and Kohler Reserve series use different balance systems: ProFlex windows run a block-and-tackle balance rated for specific sash weights, while Reserve windows were built with a constant-force coil balance. You cannot swap one for the other. If you read the label on the top edge of the sash, you’ll find the series name, the glass size, and a date code. That date code is how we match the part, because Kohler changed its weatherstripping profile in 2019, and a pre-2019 frame will not accept the newer seal cleanly.
For doors, the hinge spacing matters more than the door’s name. Most Kohler entry doors use a 4-inch hinge layout, but some patio door configurations use 3-5/8-inch spacing, and that quarter-inch difference means an aftermarket hinge will sit slightly off and pull the door out of square within a season. Our rule with Kohler parts is simple: if the OEM part is still available and the warranty is active, use the OEM part. If the OEM part is discontinued or the window is outside warranty, we recommend the aftermarket equivalent only when we can verify the spec sheet matches the original dimensions within a millimeter.

Signs Your Kohler Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The sash drops when you open it halfway. This is almost always a failed balance. The coil or block-and-tackle mechanism inside the jamb has lost tension, usually after 8 to 12 years of daily use in Jacksonville’s humidity. It means the window can slam shut unexpectedly, and we treat that as a safety issue when there are children in the house.
- You can feel air moving around the frame on a windy day. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn. In Jacksonville, the salt and UV combine to bake the rubber seal faster than inland climates. Once the seal is flat, the window leaks conditioned air, and your AC works harder all summer.
- The door drags on the threshold or won’t latch without lifting the handle. The hinge screws have worked loose, or the frame itself has settled. Kohler doors are built square, but Florida slab foundations move more than people realize. Failing to fix this leads to a warped door and a much more expensive replacement.
- The locking mechanism grinds or feels gritty. Sand and salt work into the lock cylinder and the multi-point track. If you force the lock, the cam or the roller can break inside the door and lock you out or, worse, lock the door while it’s unsecured.
- Condensation appears between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit has lost its seal. In Jacksonville’s climate, this fog is permanent once it starts. The glass unit must be replaced, not just the frame or hardware, and that typically runs $200 – $600 per sash depending on size and low-E coating.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a single Kohler window or door part repair in Jacksonville, expect $300 – $1,800 installed, which includes the part, the trip charge, and labor. Full window replacement projects, where multiple units are being pulled and new construction or retrofit windows are installed, run $4,500 – $15,000 depending on window count, frame condition at the opening, and whether we’re doing interior trim work. Impact-rated windows, which many Jacksonville homeowners on the beaches and in older Avondale homes choose, fall on the higher end of that range.
Every quote is written before work starts. You’ll see the part cost, the labor, and the clean-up line item separately. No allowance line items. No change orders when the crew arrives. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every parts repair and window replacement we complete: if something isn’t right, we come back and make it right, at no charge, within the first year.
DIY or Call Us?
Some checks are safe for a homeowner. You can look at the date code on the sash, note where the draft is coming from, and check if hardware screws are tight. You can clean the track with a dry brush and check that the weep holes at the bottom of the frame are clear. That’s useful information for whoever does the repair.
What we don’t recommend is pulling a Kohler sash out to access the balance yourself. The balances are under tension, and a window sash in a two-story Jacksonville house is heavier than it looks. If a coil lets go while you’re holding it, you’re looking at a broken hand or a cracked tile floor. Graham has personally seen a homeowner knock a 40-pound sash through a lanai screen this way, and the repair cost doubled. FAQs

Expect 15 to 25 years from a well-installed Kohler window in Jacksonville, though the weatherstripping and balances typically need replacement at the 8 to 12 year mark. Coastal homes east of the Intracoastal often see hardware wear 20 to 30 percent faster due to salt exposure.
Balances and weatherstripping are always replaced, not repaired. Hinges and multi-point lock tracks can sometimes be adjusted or cleaned, but if the metal has worn or bent, replacement is cheaper than fighting the old hardware. Call (904) 643-6243 and describe what’s happening; we can usually tell you over the phone which path is likely.
A typical single-window balance replacement or door hardware swap takes 60 to 90 minutes once the part is in hand. If we need to order a specific Kohler glass unit or an uncommon hinge size, the repair is scheduled for a single visit once the part arrives at our Jacksonville shop.
Yes. We keep the most common Kohler block-and-tackle balances, constant-force coils, weatherstripping profiles, hinge sets, and door sweeps in our Jacksonville trucks. For less common or series-specific parts, we order direct and schedule the install when the correct part is physically in hand.
If you’re weighing a repair against a full replacement, or you just want a written price before deciding anything, call (904) 643-6243. We’ll schedule a walk-through, name the material, name the day, name the price, and then there is nothing left to wonder about. Estimates are always free, and the written quote is yours to keep whether or not we do the work.
